Homebuyer Dream Program

Eligible home buyers may receive up to $9,500 through participating financial institutions. Funds may be used for down payment and/or closing costs. Eligibility requirements:
  • Complete a homebuyer counseling program
  • Be a first-time homebuyer (someone who has not owned a home in the last 3 years)
  • Meet household income guidelines based on where you purchase
  • Work a minimum of 32 hours a week
  • Purchase a home in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands
  • Purchase an eligible property: 1-4 family; condominiums; co-operatives; or a manufactured home permanently affixed to a foundation. If you buy a 2+ unit property, the expected rental income will be included in determining income eligibility.
  • Have personal savings of $1,000 
  • Own and occupy the home for 5 years.
  • Other eligibility requirements may apply

The Homebuyer Dream Program will reopen Spring 2022.  Homebuyers apply through participating financial institutions, so please speak with one of the participating lenders below about submitting an application.

  • Attend - The next Homebuyer 101 orientation. Click here for schedule.
  • Make an appointment - If you are credit-ready, the next step is to meet with your homeownership advisor. If you're not yet credit ready, we recommend the Money Strategies class.
  • Before you search for a house, attend our Homebuyer Education Workshop - Get the detailed information you need to make good decisions about your first home. More information is on our education page.  At the completion of these three steps, you will receive our Homebuyer Education certificate.
